Traveling from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Wetumpka, Alabama, in 1967, we drove Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway and then through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. My wife was hoping to see at least one bear. We camped two or three nights at the Balsam Mountain Campground--more than a mile high, sleeping in the back of a station wagon. We never saw a bear, but the last morning, we found bear tracks on the top of the station wagon. I like all the cars waiting patiently I've been in situation's like this with deer and people beeping and trying to go around. These people respect that we are alp on the road but the animals have the right of way
